The Past 2 Weeks

Sorry for the delay in updating the blog; our home internet has been on the fritz.  Vicki came through the first two weeks and the holidays with flying colors.  Once the doc figured out what medicine was giving her hives, things went much better.  Sadly it was the percocet that gave her hives, so now she has a new best friend, vicodin.

She seems to enjoy being waited on and controls the household from the recliner in the family room.  She is searching for a new vice because in addition to no wine she has been told she will have to stay away from peppermint, chocolate, coffee, diet coke, or anything with caffeine for six weeks.  She tries to find the bright side though as she said it was the first Christmas she lost ten pounds rather than gained.

We all truly appreciate the support, and wish you well in the new year.

Day 1: Surgery Day

Vicki had her surgery today. She was in excellent spirits, and ready to get this over with. After two hours of surgery, the first procedure was done (mastectomy). The surgeon said the procedure went very well. They ended up removing four lymph nodes, all of which tested negative for the presence of cancerous cells. This was great news and we were all relieved. The second procedure (reconstruction) also ended up being a success, and couldn't have gone any better.

After a total of four hours of surgery, and a couple hours of recovery, we were able to visit her. She was very uncomfortable and in a lot of pain, but still maintained her sense of humor. We knew she was just fine when the nurse came in and asked, "what kind of pain medication do you want?" Vicki replied, "what kind of wine do you have?"

Vicki sends her love, and wants to let everyone know that she has her pink singing pig in her room. She hopes you all have a wonderful last couple of days before break starts.

We all thank you for your kind words, and wish you all well!

Love,
Chuck, Jackie, and Tyler
